Pois é, hoje, li um texto muito interessante no meiobit, que cita exatamente a facilidade da criação dessas app stores, mas agora para desktops. Ademais, as principais distribuições Linux querem lançar a sua loja integrada! E, ainda, existe aquele projeto do Google chamado Ohama que eu não sei nem se é suportado ainda.

Mais uma vez a Microsoft vai ficar pra trás. Eu não posso dizer que não avisei.

Sempre vemos placas escritas com erros grotescos, em todas as línguas. Nas olimpíadas de 2008, o dono de um restaurante chinês, traduziu o nome de seu estabelecimento em algum site por ai e saiu essa 'caca':

A minha opinião é que isso é muito triste para a empresa ou pessoa, seja lá em que ramo. Degrine a imagem de quem tenta fazer um trabalho sério. Existem erros, como o desse post, que passam despercebidos por muita gente, pelo simples fato de que não existe a cultura entre as pessoas de procurar a maneira correta de escrever.

Há uns 3 ou 4 anos atrás e me deparei com a dúvida: "Como é a maneira correta de escrever 'portfolio' em português?". Então, uma rápida pesquisa no Google me levou a este site. Ele explica o porquê o certo é usar 'portfolio' ou 'porta-fólio', dando uma aulinha de português (tá ai a resposta do por que as pessoas não procuram saber a forma correta de utilizar as palavras). Nem o Word sabe qual a forma correta!

Para quem não quer ter uma aulinha de português, deixo com a última frase do post Luiz Gonçalves: "Você pode usar “portfolio” e “porta-fólio” e deve evitar portifólio. Só não esqueça a qualidade do conteúdo  [Webinsider]".

Então, da próxima vez que tiver dúvida, ou mesmo se não tiver, agora já sabe. Procure saber a forma correta!

Existe um ditado na internet que diz: "A Internet eh uma invencao maravilhosa, posso escrever sem acento e ninguem me chamar de burro".

          I was willing to write this post for a long time two days I think, but I wanted to clear my thoughts first. Actually, I think you already know Linux will be the first OS to support USB3.0 connection, don't you? If you don’t, please read this[1]. So, that’s a REALLY good thing and great news for the GNU/Linux community.

          I’m really happy about it! 

          Anyway, here is my opinion about the topic.

          First, some background. Some time ago I read the news about this USB3.0, how fast it was and the energetic efficiency of it. I think it is a natural evolution of the USB2.0. To make an analogy, some years ago I attended a talk in my university in Brazil by AMD and the person said Linux was also the first OS to support 64bits, when they released Athlon64 in 2003[2]. However, 64bit OS never worked fine. And the problem of it: the transition phase. We are in this transition phase, a normal evolution period from one technology to another. And it is very hard; because if someone doesn't strongly suggest [3] we use the new technology (better or not) people are going to take a long time to adopt it. Or even adopt when the time comes [4] :)

          You must be thinking: "Why did this guy write about 64bit OS and Digital TV on USB3.0topic?". Ok, what I really wanted to say is about this transition phase.This transition phase is the time when the technology is not mature enough to be imposed as the new trend (as the Digital TV) or it is not even working yet, as the USB3.0 (I was going to say OpenXML by Microsoft, but that is too polemic, let's keep it small for now ). So, let's see how this is going to enter in the market. We still have some USB1.1 connectors and devices that we can't really differentiate them(from the appearance), because the connector is the same. So, a lot of people (me included) must have been conned by some shop guy selling you USB1.1 as 2.0. But now, the structure has changed, because of technological matters I won't enter in details, you can read about it [5].

          Moreover, when this new USB3.0 is released, you will need a special hardware to make it work, in other words, you will need to buy an USB3.0 adapter to your computer, because the connector is different. It will not be like when we passed from USB1.1 to USB2.0. To illustrate a picture of the two connectors is shown below.

          To finish, I think it is a big step (once again) for Linux as being the first to have it ported. But, I'm definitely sure this technology will just be provided for end-users as soon as they port it to the Windows platform.

          But, let's be honest, if I we were programming this, we would choose to make it first for Linux, which we have a good documentation and we can understand better what is really going on with the OS and its I/O connections.

          Depois de algum tempo off-line sem poder postar, uma viagens interessantes e bonitas para Marrocos (ainda não fiz upload) e Turquia (Álbum1, Álbum2, Álbum3, Álbum4) e muito trabalho. Resolvi escrever um artigo simples explicando como eu fiz para usar o Migre.me o Firefox, utilizando uma extensão que gosto muito chamada: UrlbarExt.

          Vamos ao passo-a-passo (partindo do pressuposto que você tenha o firefox instalado):

1. Clique aqui e instale a extensão, reinicie o Firefox.
2. Vá ao menu de extensões (Menu->Tools->Add-ons) e procure por "UrlbarExt".
3. Abra as "Preferências"., na aba "Tiny".
4. Agora, faça o seguinte: Clique no "mais"(+), para adicionar um novo serviço;
5. Em "Caption", escreva: ¨Migre.me¨
6. Em "Api", escreva: ¨http://migre.me/api.xml¨
7. Em "Arguments", escreva: ¨url=%?url%¨
8. Em "Filter", escreva: ¨<migre>(.+)</migre>¨
9. Selecione a coluna "#", a fim de usar o migre.me e deixe as outras colunas em branco.
10. Se quiser (eu faço isso), selecione a opção: "Automatically copy the shortened URL into clipboard"
11. Aperte OK, Close.
12. Use sua funcionalidade sem moderação.

          Uma ótima é mesclar sua funcionalidade com à da extensão Migre.me IT, que adiciona à funcionalidade ao menu de contexto. Assim, sua vida e suas URLs ficarão muito mais fáceis. Espero ter ajudado.

O Google acabou de lançar, como projeto open-source o Google Omaha, uma iniciativa que pode beneficiar muita gente. Isso harmoniza com um post meu de não tanto tempo atrás, que dizia exatamente sobre a necessidade de uma central de atualização e instalação de softwares para ambiente Windows, como o Synaptic para Linux.

Assim, o Google dá, mais uma vez, um passo a frente para a evolução das tecnologias existentes. E, acima de tudo, fico deveras agradecido com essa iniciativa tão legal.

Espero que isso seja bastante usado para que as atualizações não fiquem mais por conta de cada desenvolvedor de software, assim, nós poderemos nos focar no desenvolvimento de funcionalidades mais interessantes para os programas.

Today, while I was eating my delicious breakfast (gift from my girlfriend) I started to read some new about the earthquake that happened this week here in Italy. As I am a Brazilian, and, luckily, I have never witnessed an earthquake myself, after some time, I started thinking: "What should I do in case an earthquake comes?".

The answer I got from the sites I visited is simply: "Hope nothing bad happens to you or your family", there is no how to list, or follow the steps and you will be safe! Do not worry. But, if you live in an area, which has earthquakes (or it is likely to have one), there are some things you could do before, during and after the earthquake: 

How to be Prepared

• Electricity, water, gas and telephones may not be working after an earthquake. The police and fire departments are likely to be tied up. You should be prepared to fend for yourself for at least three days, preferably for a week.
  

• You'll need food and water (a gallon a day per person); a first aid kit; a fire extinguisher suitable for all types of fires; flashlights; a portable radio; extra batteries, blankets, clothes, shoes and money (ATMs may not work); medication; an adjustable or pipe wrench to turn off gas or water, if necessary; baby and pet food; and an alternate cooking source (barbecue or camp stove). This list can also be applied to other disasters, such as floods or wildfires.
  

• It's also a good idea to decide beforehand how and where your family will reunite if separated during a quake and to conduct in-home practice drills. You might choose an out-of-the-area friend or relative that family members can call to check on you.  

• Securing water heaters, major appliances and tall, heavy furniture to prevent them from toppling are prudent steps. So, too, are storing hazardous or flammable liquids, heavy objects and breakables on low shelves or in secure cabinets.  

• Discuss earthquake insurance with your agent. Depending on your financial situation and the value of your home, it may be worthwhile

During an Earthquake

• If you're indoors, stay there. Get under -- and hold onto --a desk or table, or stand against an interior wall. Stay clear of exterior walls, glass, heavy furniture, fireplaces and appliances. The kitchen is a particularly dangerous spot. If you're in an office building, stay away from windows and outside walls and do not use the elevator.
  

• If you're outside, get into the open. Stay clear of buildings, power lines or anything else that could fall on you.
  

• If you're driving, move the car out of traffic and stop. Avoid parking under or on bridges or overpasses. Try to get clear of trees, light posts, signs and power lines. When you resume driving, watch out for road hazards.
  

• If you're in a mountainous area, beware of the potential for landslides. Likewise, if you're near the ocean, be aware that tsunamis are associated with large earthquakes. Get to high ground.
  

• If you're in a crowded public place, avoid panicking and do not rush for the exit. Stay low and cover your head and neck with your hands and arms.

After an Earthquake

• Check for fire or fire hazards. If you smell gas, shut off the main gas valve. If there's evidence of damage to electrical wiring, shut off the power at the control box.
  

• If the phone is working, only use it in case of emergency. Likewise, avoid driving if possible to keep the streets clear for emergency vehicles.
  

• Be aware that items may fall out of cupboards or closets when the door is opened, and also that chimneys can be weakened and fall with a touch. Check for cracks and damage to the roof and foundation of your home.
  

• Listen to the radio for important information and instructions. Remember that aftershocks, sometimes large enough to cause damage in their own right, generally follow large quakes.
  

• If you leave home, leave a message telling friends and family your location.
